Big Announcement

Posted March 4, 2008

I've been holding on this news until I finally sent out the remaining CD's I owed a few people from last year's WalkAmerica. For those of you waiting, I apologize - things have been a bit crazy the last year. I hit up the post office last night so you'll have your CD's in the next couple of days.

As you may know, in January of 2002, my son Evan was born 9 weeks early and weighed 3 pounds. Thanks to technology and research done by the March of Dimes, he's a healthy and happy 6-year-old who's excelling in kindergarten. He loves maps, PlayStation, sports and so much more. We're very lucky that we made it through that with little last health issues, and I want to do whatever I can to help future preemies beat the odds, much like our Evan has.

Last year, I raised the most of any individual walker in Crawford County, over $1,000. That's awesome, and I couldn't have done it without your help. Here's a photo of the plaque to prove it.

The March of Dimes was so impressed that they've asked us to be this year's Ambassador Family in Crawford County. We're excited about the honor and will do all we can to raise awareness about prematurity and the work the March of Dimes does.

Today in the U.S., 1 in every 8 babies will be born prematurely. Some of them won't survive, and others will have health problems that could last a lifetime. The funds we raise in March for Babies support research that saves babies' lives. The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.

Here's my plea for this year. Will you support me and Evan and all the babies this year?

Above this blog post or if you can see my Facebook profile, I've added a graphic that shows my progress towards my goal. I've set the goal as the same amount we raised last year, and as you can see we're well on our way to meeting that goal. Would you give a few dollars? Every bit helps, especially those of you in Erie that work at GE - they match all donations dollar for dollar. That adds up pretty quickly. You can click on the banner above or use this link.

Like last year, $50 will get you a custom mix CD created just for you by me (and it wont take 8 months to arrive, promise). $500 will get you and/or your business ad placement here and perhaps the 45,000 people who visit ErieBlogs.com every month. For $1,000 I give you a CD, ad space and throw a picnic in your honor this summer. Seriously, I'll even grill.

Even if you only give a few dollars, I'll be giving away one of the full-size beanie bears we received at this year's kick-off luncheon. They're white and cute, and one could be yours.

Thanks again for your help. It means the world to me.

Evan catches up on some reading.

Mike, thanks for the cd! I didn't even know you owed me one. I had just donated to Jenny's page and got the cd that afternoon. Weird timing! Anyway, thanks and good luck this year!
