Freecycle FTW!
The Internet is great. Where else could I list that I've got a big pile of scrap metal collected from my garage, left there by the previous owner of the house, on a Sunday and on Monday morning the scrap metal is gone. Thanks, Freecycle!
I've used Freecycle to get rid of a ton of stuff in our new house. Last summer, someone came and took the 25' radio antenna in our backyard. In the winter, someone came and took an ancient fridge and freezer in our garage. While he was there, he offered to take the old stove in there as well as some left over roof shingles. This morning, someone came with a pickup and took a ton old metal pipes, steel things and other pieces. I've always had very good responses to my listings, and try to be fair and offer the first person who contacted me. For the metal, I had close to 15 responses. Wow.
Sure, I could have recycled some of it for money, but if someone wants to make the effort to come pick up the stuff, that's great with me. Hopefully, they can re-use or recycle it.
