One Year of Netflix

I was a Netflix subscriber way back in 1998, when DVDs were just starting to blow up. I had it for awhile and unsubscribed, though I can't remember why now. I re-signed up in October of last year, and I have to say I've been very happy with the service. With a shipping center in Pittsburgh, I can put a movie in the mail on Monday morning and usually have a new disc when I get home from work on Wednesday night. Their selection is very diverse, and on top of the newest releases, they stock plenty of weird, obscure movies that I tend to watch, such as Chinese romantic comedies.

I put my rental history in the NetFlix History Analyzer and got some interesting stats.

In the last year, I've rented 116 DVDs. I've paid $233.87 over the last year for movies, and the average cost to me per rental was $2.02. When compared to Blockbuster or Hollywood video (my choices here in Meadville. The Iggle video is gone and the Family Video just opened), which costs let's say $3.75 per rental, I've saved $200 over the lifetime of my membership. Not bad, I say.

On average, I keep my discs about 7 days on average. The longest DVD I've kept is 55 days for Family Guy Vol. 1 Disc 2 (I think Jennifer had rented that one). I rent about 9 DVDs a month.

The Analyzer says I'm not taking full advantage of my current plan. They suggest to get the best value I should be renting 19 DVDs every month. I'm not sure I could get through 19 discs a month. Does anyone out there get through 19 a month? Maybe if I was single without a child.
