Pens Win an Epic Game

Posted June 3, 2008

Tonight was one of those nights you live for as a hockey fan - tonight fans on both sides felt the highest highs and the lowest lows possible.

When the Wings scored that 3rd goal late in the third period, especially after watching the Pens play a strong game up to that point, it felt like the lowest one can feel as your favorite team is 5 minutes away from losing a championship.

It felt inevitable, especially as NBC started showing shots of the NHL official getting the Stanley Cup ready to present to the Wings.

There's two minutes left. You want to puke you feel so awful.

A minute left. You want it all to be over. There's no way Detroit will give up a goal with with Fleury pulled. They've been so amazing defensively, there's no way.

That may be one of the biggest goals in Penguins history.

Overtime.

Detroit dominated the first OT - but Marc-Andre Fleury played out of this mind and stopped everything. We were stronger in the second OT, and finally, finally, in the third overtime, Petr Sykora buried one on a power play.I think I woke up everyone in the house. The series goes back to Pittsburgh for Game 6 on Wednesday.

I am exhausted, and I'm sure many other Pens (and Wings) fans are as well. What a game.
