Slowly Making Progress

Posted December 10, 2007

For most people, the optimum time to start cleaning out your garage would be summer or fall, before the snow starts. Not me.

Me? I thought mid-December would be a good time.

I finally got around to listing a bunch of our old appliances on FreeCycle and two days later, all the old stuff in our garage is gone: the ancient freezer and fridge, the ugly brown gas range, the dishwasher and cabinet. I also told the guy he could have whatever else in the garage he saw - so he took the electric lawnmower that was left with the house and a bunch of old shingles. I don't know what he'll do with them but they're not on the floor any longer so I'm good.

Now that stuff is gone, I might actually be able to position the rest of our crap in there and maybe get the car in the garage. We got spoiled having a garage at our old place (one of the few highlights of that dump) and going out and brushing off the car is a bummer, not to mention a hazard. Our driveway has small slopes on either side that get dangerously slippery with any sort of precipitation, a fact I learned the hard way when I fell on the side and re-hurt my already injured shoulder.

So maybe by Spring I'll be parking in the garage. We'll see.

what's up with people leaving electric lawn mowers when they move out? i inherited one myself. i think it's still outside my house, next to the pile of twigs i've built up, since the city of erie doesn't seem to take them with the trash.
