Start Pushing

Posted November 26, 2007

While going from Giant Eagle to Giant Eagle on the west side of Cleveland Friday night looking for soy cream cheese, something happened that hadn't happened in the previous 31 years I've spent on the earth.

I ran of out of gas while driving.

To be fair, it wasn't my car, but my father's. He keeps any vehicle he's owned barely above E for as long as I've been driving his cars. I don't know if it's a specific plan on his part to discourage us from driving, but I thought I had enough to get 2 exits down the highway on the search for all things soy. I was mistaken.

At the top of the I-90 and Route 83 interchange, the car gave up and petered out. Brad and some other good samaritan helped us get the car safely off the ramp and onto the berm, where I had to make the dreaded "I'm out of gas" call back home. Luckily, my sister got the phone and brought us enough gas to get to the station, where in typical Dad fashion, I left him $5 in the tank.

Ouch! If you had your Dad's Buick, I happen to know that when the out of gas light comes on, it's too late. You really are out of gas! Sorry for your bad luck.

it could be worse...
you could have run to quality market to get some milk for your mom in a snowstorm, only to leave the car running when you go in...

or lock yourself and two friends out of your car at the millcreek mall...

or smash-one-up on St. Patrick's day when you skip school to go out for breakfast...

or you could do all of the above.
