Talk about backwards compatible
By purchasing a bookshelf this week, we've finally been able to clean out our hall closet and find some of the things that have been buried in there since we moved in June. Things like all our DVDs, winter hats, gloves and more.
Tonight, we found the video game tub. This large plastic tote contains all the video games systems of yesteryear that we own. Here's what we played with tonight. If anyone wants any of these items, let me know.
2 original GameBoys and a ton of games. They started up but didn't get much further. Bummer, I wanted to play Tetris.
In the tub was also an original Dreamcast and some games, like NFL2K and Soul Calibur, which in my opinion is the best fighting game ever. It still looks and plays amazing. I can remember long afternoons when I worked at Duquesne hooking the Dreamcast up to a projector and playing round after round of SC. We also have Seaman - does anyone else remember that game. It came with a microphone and Seaman would ask you questions after you raised him from an egg into a man. Wacky game - very Japanese.
We started raising our Seaman in the month or two before our wedding in 2000. After the wedding and honeymoon and starting married life, we neglected poor Seaman. He's probably sitting on a Dreamcast memory card very angry by this point.
We found old PlayStation and PlayStation2 games in the tub. It just feels weird playing Madden98 on a Playstation3. At the time, those games looked so awesome. I can remember Karl and I playing Tekken2 for hours and we were continually amazed at the graphics. As I played it tonight, it didn't look as sharp.
I also have a game called Bust-A-Move that I bought when I was in Japan. In the US, it was called Bust-A-Groove. I used to be able to get it to run in my Playstation by booting a regular game while holding the lid open and throwing the Japanese disc in. I tried to play it in the PS3 tonight and it woudn't let me. Stupid region encoding. If you want this game, let me know. It's yours.
We also found some NES games. We've got a real top-loading NES and lots of goodies like Zelda 2, SMB2 and SNK Baseball Stars (I think that game is Jerry's). With the Virtual Console on the Wii, we don't need to dig out all these old cartridges. Just this week I downloaded Double Dribble. Nothing's more exhilarating then dominating your 5 year old at Double Dribble.
Finally, there were some old GameCube games. We traded in the GameCube a long time ago but still have some games like Crazy Taxi. That's a fun game, but when Evan plays it, we call it Very Cautious Taxi. He obeys all traffic signals and is very careful not to run into anyone. Now, that stupid song from the game is in my head and all night I've been yelling "yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah."
I need me some baseball stars! Best baseball game ever made.
